COLNE VALLEY (2) V CROYDON BOROUGH (0) 27/03/2011

The Croydon Borough under 10-s side took to the pitch in what was to prove a tight and tense fight for the league title. With only a matter of points separating the two teams we knew that Colne Valley were going to pressure us from the start and try to close up the gap. The first half was a very end-to-end affair and Colne Valley sent many balls up into our half putting pressure on our defence. However, Megan , who was feeling sick during the match made some great saves time and time again. Jess and Rachel had several chances at goal and i think the ball went everywhere apart from the inside of the net! Possession wise it was a very even game but Colne Valley managed to take their chances when we didn-t which left us 2-0 down at half time. In the second half the girls kept their heads up and fought hard for a goal but Colne Valley kept the pressure on us at all times and defended very well so the goal just wasn-t to be.

Croydon Borough girls left the field very disappointed with losing their first game in a league match so near to the end of the season and it has also seen the race for the title became very close.

This weeks player s of the week went to Lizzie and Megan for their great performances today. Well done to you all it was a good effort in such a difficult game.
