Fleet Town Reds 2
Croydon U18's 1

Sian F (1)

This was the girls 2nd Semi-final and another chance to win some silverware. Once again we were drawn away from home and it was a 3 hour round trip to Fleet.
After losing the previous Semi the girls really looked up for this one and so it proved at first!!

Croydon started the game at a great pace and totally dominated the first 10 mins. It looked as though Fleet has been caught napping and it was only a matter of time before we scored. A low cross into the box was met by Sian on the half volley and she placed the ball perfectly past the Fleet keeper(0-1). It was her first goal in 4 matches and everyone felt that this was a good omen.
With Lauren buzzing around the midfield and our defence looking good, Croydon only needed a second goal before half time to kill this game off.
It wasn't to be though as a hopeful long pass from the Fleet defender causes a moments hesitation in Croydon's defence that allowed the home team to sneak in and score a scruffy equaliser(1-1).
The shock was visable for all to see and the goal lifted the Fleet team. Thankfully the half time whistle came at just the right time.

Despite an encouraging half time team talk Croydon came back on the pitch looking like a completely different side.
Fleet were now first to every ball and we just couldn't string 2 passes together.
Katie was soon bought on to inject some more power and urgency into the Croydon attack, but this was only short lived as we looked like a team of strangers.
Fleet soon made the most of this by scoring a second after a goal mouth scramble from a corner(2-1).
Thankfully that goal woke the girls from their slumber and for the last 10mins Croydon through everything at the Fleet team. However chance after chance went begging as we rushed into every shot, when a moments thought and control would surely have done the trick.
The ref blew up to put Croydon out of their misery and condem us to another frustrating semi final afternoon.

So close and yet VERY far!!!
