Croydon played their third game in a week on Sunday including a rigorous fitness test on Tuesday. The girls’ work ethic is first rate and the aim is to go unbeaten for the remainder of the season, leading up to the cup final.

Croydon had to come from behind for the third game running but this time it was from 2-0 down! With Sophie bagging a brace to end her goal drought, Croydon eventually powered their way to a 4-2 victory. With chances going begging Croydon fell behind midway through the first half, despite having had the majority of play they never really worked the Kingstonian goalkeeper nearly enough.

Ray asked the girls to up their work rate and get some service to the strikers. The second half went much like the first; plenty of possession but no end product. Kingstonian took advantage of Croydon’s misses and doubled their lead with a great finish 10 minutes into the half. But you have to admire the girls ‘never say die’ attitude and Caitlin hit a daisy cutter that just rolled in to get Croydon back in the game. Courtney who had only been on 10 minutes was giving Kingstonian’s defenders something to think about with 2 great efforts that the keeper did well to keep out, when she took a heavy knock to her ankle. Courtney couldn’t continue so Sophie was pushed up front and at last she got a goal that her play deserved with a great header following some fine play by Charlie who put in a great cross; Sophie met it bang on the button 2-1. Only Millie and now Sophie have scored with their heads – who’s next?!! The game was there for the taking and Croydon took it when Fozzie poked home from Sophie’s well taken corner, 3-1 Croydon. Then just like buses Sophie got her second direct from a corner. Croydon should be taking advantage of her fantastic corners – they are a real threat. So 3 games in a week, 7 points and AFC Wimbledon this Sunday – what a beautiful game this is, well done girls.

N.B. Ray and I would like to thank all you girls involved this week. It’s been a hard slog and you did us proud!
